Sailing Club Island is a small islet near the sailing club moorings on the reservoir at Carsington Water, near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
Landscape
Carsington Water is a large reservoir in the Derbyshire Peak District, built by Severn Trent Water and opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992. Holding 36,331 megalitres, it is the ninth-largest reservoir in England, and its sheltered arms and small islands make it an important place for birds.
More about Sailing Club Island

The islands were left as wildlife refuges when the reservoir was built, away from the sailing, cycling and walking on and around the water. The reservoir’s quieter northern arms, with their hides, are the best places for birds.

Visiting
There is no landing on Sailing Club Island. The 8-mile path around Carsington Water and the bird hides give good views of the islands. You can collect Sailing Club Island as a sighting in your Island Passport.
Wildlife and area

Wintering wildfowl include wigeon, teal, tufted ducks and goldeneyes, with great northern divers in some winters; little grebes, oystercatchers, common terns and redshanks breed.
