These terms apply to your use of searchisle.com (“Search Isle”), run by CINQ, 74 St Helen’s Road, Hastings, TN34 2LN. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Using Search Isle
Search Isle is a free guide to the islands of Britain, Ireland and the Crown Dependencies. You may browse, read and share links to it for personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not:
- copy or republish large parts of the site, or scrape it with automated tools, without our written permission;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any account;
- interfere with the site’s operation, for example by overloading it or introducing malicious code;
- use the site for anything unlawful.
Information on the site
We work hard to make island information accurate, but islands change: ferry timetables, access rules, ownership, populations and facilities all move on. Information on Search Isle is general guidance only. Always check with the operator, landowner or official source before you travel.
Safety on tidal islands and at sea
Tide times and graphs on Search Isle are modelled estimates from Open-Meteo and can differ from actual tides by an hour or more. They are not for navigation and must never be used to plan a crossing to a tidal island. Tidal causeways, sands and mudflats can flood quickly and people have died crossing them. Always use official safe crossing times and follow local signs and advice.
Visiting islands
Many islands listed on Search Isle are privately owned, protected for wildlife or unsafe to land on. A listing on Search Isle does not mean an island is open to the public or that you have permission to visit it. Respect landowners, seasonal restrictions and breeding birds and seals, and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, the Countryside Code or local equivalents.
Photos and other content
Unless stated otherwise, the text and design of Search Isle are © CINQ. Many photos come from Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash and remain the work of their photographers; each is credited on the page with its licence (for example CC BY-SA 4.0). You may reuse those photos only under their own licences, by following the credit to the original. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and Google where shown. Tide data is from Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0).

Adverts and links
Search Isle shows adverts provided by Google. We do not choose individual adverts and do not endorse the products or services in them. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or practices.
Member accounts
If you have a member login, keep your password private and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
Our liability
We provide Search Isle free of charge and “as is”. We do not promise that the site will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on its information, including any decision to travel to or cross to an island.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
